Boots for Buenos Aires
Merewether Carlton Rugby Club is sending a squad of players and supporters to the Tandil Rugby Sevens in Argentina in February 2011.
In addition to the tour games, our club will also be participating in a ‘Hands on Humanity’ project which will see us spend a day at the Hogar San Pablo Orphanage in Buenos Aires where we will deliver the boots and conduct a coaching clinic.
The Hogar San Pablo orphanage assists children and adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds that have no family support and depend on the orphanage for the development of life-skills. The orphanage provides schooling, literacy, communication, physical education and sporting opportunities for children and adolescents who would otherwise be living on the streets.
The tour company has issued our club with the challenge of collecting 380 pairs of football boots (10 pairs per tourist) in return for which they will meet the transport costs for shipping the boots to the Hogar San Pablo Orphanage in conjunction with the tour.
We would like to offer the opportunity of participating in our collection campaign by having your organisation host a ‘Boots for Buenos Aires’ donation box at your workplace. The box will be professionally presented and the boots will be cleared weekly (or more regularly if need be). Donations of used or no longer needed football boots from all codes are welcome.
Should you be unable to host a box however would like to alert other people to our campaign, please forward the attached flyer on to them. Boot donations will be able to be placed in the specially marked boxes at the NIB retail outlets at Newcastle, Charlestown, Westfield Kotara, Glendale, Greenhills and Raymond Terrace from 10th January 2011 until 21st January, 2011.
We appreciate any assistance you can provide in helping us reach our target of 380 pairs of boots and can assure you that your goodwill will make a big impact on our ‘Boots for Buenos Aires - Hands on Humanity’ project.
A TV commercial and advertsing campaign will also be run in conjunction to this campaign. The TV commercial can be downloaded below.
