Les Lovell kicking off 80th Anniversary

The Merewether Carlton Rugby Club will formally celebrate its 80th Anniversary on Saturday 21st August 2010.

At 91 years of age, Mr Les Lovell is one of our club’s oldest members and he has accepted an invitation to kick-off the Premier 1 match between the Greens and Lake Macquarie at 3.00pm on Saturday at Townson Oval.

Les was recently the guest of honour at Merewether Carlton Rugby Club’s Presidents Lunch where he presented the club with his 1939 Premiership blazer.

Les played 19 first grade and 7 reserve grade games with our club during the period between 1939 and 1945.

The club will complete its anniversary celebrations on Saturday night with a ball at the Newcastle Jockey Club.
