Merewether Carlton Rugby Union Club has cemented a place at the top of the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union Competition. The club proudly fills the maximum number of teams possible, comprising of five senior grades, a colts and a women’s side.

The club has been Newcastle Rugby club champions on nineteen occasions, a record that no other club has surpassed. This includes being club champions in the last six consecutive seasons – 2005 to 2010
