Womens - Saturday 7th May 2011 V Hamilton

Women – Merewether Carlton v Hamilton Harps – Won by MC

Score – 27-19

With dismal numbers due to several key players out trialling for the NSW Blues League Team the Greens Girls brought players Pru Harper and Jo Murray out of retirement to play against the army that Hamilton Harps have registered this year.

Showing the Green pride in the 'oh so tight jersey’s' the Green Girls showed courage and brilliance in their 27-19 win against the Harps.

Starting the game with 12 players against Hamilton’s 22, the Greens opted to contest the scrums and this proved a great strategy as they dominated Hamilton's pack, until Hamilton called uncontested.

In the spirit of the game, Hamilton matched numbers late in the first half which gave the greens girls an opportunity to outshine their opponents.

Hamilton scored the first points of the match but this was quickly answered by greens Fullback Naomi Medlin crossing to even the scoreboard.

The green girls were down at half time, but with a quick rev up from Middo and Captain Stevie-Lee the girls were firing after their oranges.

The forwards showed dominance in both attack and defence, with some brilliant runs from steam rolling sisters Minah and Jenny Mauli opening space for the backs to do the damage.

The girls were reduced to 11 players in the second half due to injury but the brilliance showed by our number 10 Kiya Simon as she quickly put people over the line to even up the score and bring the team back into contention for the win.

Kiya crossed for a double herself with a Chip-Chase-Regather that had the opposition and even the referee speechless. The final 3 points were kicked by Kiya on the back of a head-high, securing Merewether the win.
